Inspiron 15 - DVD drive problem

My problem is that the dvd drive of my dell inspiron 15 3521 is not detected by my laptop. It worked 2 days ago then today it really is not detected. No dvd drive from My Computer. Also when i turn the laptop on, there is no blinking indicating it has power.

What do you suggest i do? Do i really need to buy a new dvd drive or is there a way to check first the status and fix it?

RE: Inspiron 15 - DVD drive problem

Hi Charles,

There are two things to try first. Boot to the BIOS and see if your DVD drive is listed in the BIOS section called Drives. If you see it there, then boot to the F12 menu and run the Dell diagnostics on your DVD drive with a data disc in the drive. If that passes, then you can try running the Microsoft Fixit utility (link below), which will make a minor registry change that should allow you to use your drive.
