Inspiron 1521 won't burn CD's
Hi, I have an inspiron 1521 with vista and am unable to burn data to a CD. I have tried using windows and it says "windows was unable to complete the format." I have also tried using Roxio. With Roxio, it says the CD was created successfully but the disc is still blank. I have uninstalled and reinstalled roxio and have changed my brand of CDs to Maxell CD-Rpro. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong or how to fix it?
Thank you!

Q: What is the optical drive make and model?
Q: Have you updated the firmware for the drive?

My drive is TSSTcorp DVDRW DL
I believe I have updated the firmware for the drive...I am not sure though. I have called Dell support and chated with them online numerous times. They did a few things and I think one of them was involving firmware.

We need to find out exactly which model drive it is. It should be either the TSST-L632H, or the TSST-L462D.
There are firmware updates dated 3/18/2008 (for the L462D) - go here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R181909&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1520&servicetag=C0D7SD1&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=12786&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=32&fileid=248033
and 4/1/2008 (for the L632H) - go here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R180684&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1520&servicetag=C0D7SD1&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=14182&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=32&fileid=246327
Let me know if the firmware flash corrects the problem.

Okay, under the properties of the drive it says that it is "TSSTcorp DVD+RW TS-L632D ATA Device"
This wasn't either one of the ones you listed. Am I looking in the wrong spot? I went to Dell support and tried to download either of the ones you suggested but it said that my drive is not compatible with the firmware.
