Inspiron 15R SE 7520 HD Problem - Failed (Error code: WHD20-WJY)

I have a Inspiron 15R SE 7520  and it has been noisy recently.  Whenever I try a dell diagnostics test it always tells me that there's a problem with internet connection (which is nonsense).

When i go into my dell support center and run a check up I get this

SMART Short Self Test
Test Started 23/08/2015 06:17:18
Error Message: The device reported the following status: The previous self-test completed having the read element of the test failed. 23/08/2015 06:17:50
Error Message: The first failing LBA value is 1275893400 and the failure occurred after the device had been operating for 21664 power-on hours. 23/08/2015 06:17:50
Test Finished: Failed (Error code: WHD16-09W) 23/08/2015 06:17:52

Can anyone help me please?

Your hard drive  has developed bad sectors and needs to be replaced.

You'll need a new, 2.5" 9.5 or 7 mm SATA notebook drive along with the recovery media you (hopefully) made when you received the system.

If you did not make the recovery media on system arrival, you'll need to contact Dell to purchase that now, as you will need it once you replace the faulty hard drive.

If the system is under warranty and you have onsite service, yes.  You'll want to run the full Dell diagnostics (F12 at powerup) outside of Windows, recording the exact error message for the technician, as it will save you time on the phone to have this done before hand.

Thanks for your reply EJN63  but,  It's not still under warranty, Its almost 3 years old.  I dont have onsite service afaik.

Will I be able to sign up for any of this so I can get the HD replaced?  I know it will cost for buying extended warranty etc but have no idea how much that will cost or how much a new HD will cost .

If anyone knows how much approx  all this will cost it would me very helpful.

A hard drive will run perhaps $50.  Dell generally uses a flat-rate charge for repairs - about $160 in the US, which is the hardware + labor to install the drive.  Since installing and configuring the OS takes more time, it may add to the cost -- you'll need to call to get an estimate of the charge.

A local computer shop can probably do the job just as well as Dell can.
