Inspiron 8100(DVD-R problem)
I have a problem playing DVD-R discs in my Inspiron 8100 with Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-C2502. They slow down to a still frame every few seconds. Does anyone know if the firmware update, BR59016.exe
,would solve this problem? I have tried to install this firmware, but I can't figure out how to do it.
Thanks

just double click the file & the installer will ask you to insert a floppy in the floppy drive to copy the files to.
once the floppy is made, remove any disk from your dvd drive then reboot.
the system will boot from the floppy & just choose yes if asked if you want to do the update.
after the update, you will need to remove the floppy disc and then reboot the system before using the drive.

"Over Write Flash-ROM ? (Y/N):_"
I selected Y, then it said "Comparison: Good", then it said "A:>_", asking me to type or enter something.
What do I type or enter? That is where I am stuck.
Thanks

Sorry to reply with such a delay, I have been out a couple days.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I created the floppy, rebooted, etc, but on the screen, I see:
"Over Write Flash-ROM ? (Y/N):_"
I selected Y, then it said "Comparison: Good", then it said "A:_", asking me to type or enter something.
What do I type or enter? That is where I am stuck.
Also, the DVD tray ejects when I start this firmware upgrade.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
After pressing Y, the firmware may have already been flashed, and the program is
simply dumping you at a dos prompt. Reboot the system into Windows and check the firmware
revision of the drive to see if it has been updated.
The drive ejecting while the firmware is flashed may be normal.
Simply push the tray back in, go into Windows, and check to see if the firmware has been updated.
Question:
How do I find my DVD drives firmware revision in Windows XP:
Right click my computer,manage,expand storage,removable storage,libraries
right click on your drive, properties, device infomation.

Thanks for the update.
Ok, once the disk drops you to the A: prompt, type in the following and press enter.
" V145TAIS.EXE XI1D23.HEX " with no quotes, and press Enter.
You should then see some wording as the flash starts.
I could not complete the flash since I don't have the drive, but once it is done it should
either drop you to the A: prompt again, or tell you to reboot the system.
Simply take the flash disk out, and reboot.
Then go into Windows and check the firmware revision again.

F/W Rev.:1D23 >1D23
New F/W: 02/12/26 10:50:40
Over Write Flash-ROM? (Y/N):
If I select Y, I see flashing code numbers, then it says:
Comparison: Good
Toshiba SD-C2502 1D23 12/26/02
A:>_
When I check the update, it still says 1D13.

Ok, that is strange.
Try removing and reseating the drive.
Also, remove the drive from Device Manager, then reboot the system so Windows redetects the drive.
Once that is done, recheck the firmware revision.

Sorry about the late response, I have been out for a couple days.
In device manager, simply choose Uninstall, then reboot the system.
Once the system is rebooted, Windows should automatically reinstall the drive.
