Inspiron 9300 DVD/CD Drive Not Recognized
Drive is NEC DVD+-RW ND6500A. Running Windows XP Home. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling hardware and driver. In 'Device Manager' get error message: "Windows successfully loaded device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware. (Code 41)".
Bought new external drive today, but get the same error.
From a post to another running Vista, see that registry may be the problem, but hesitate to try the same solution for XP.
Any assistance will be very much appreciated.

Try this Dell Article for removing the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters
in the Registry here .............
