LG GDR8162B DVD-ROM Firmware Upgrade

I am looking for a firmware upgrade beyond version 0015 for LG's GDR8162B DVD-ROM drive.  Kinda funny, LG lists firmware upgrades in their support sites for the 8161B and 8163B, but not for the 8162B.  Either it's that good of a DVD-ROM drive that never required a firmware update beyond version 0015, or it's that bad and LG moved on to the 8163B :smileyindifferent:.  I've come across a firmware upgrade @ driverguide.com, version 0020 but the extracted contents look suspect.  I've heard that Dell did distribute and support the 8162B on some Dell Systems (Dim 2400/Dim 8300), yet my search of Dell has yielded no results for the 8162B.  Advice and/or suggestions are greatly welcomed :smileyhappy:.  TIA.

Hi,
I have package of drivers for GDR-8162B DVD-ROM by chance:smileyhappy: This zip package includes all version of drivers for this drive known - 0015, 0017, 0018, 0019 and 0020. It has also all RPC1 and RPC2 firmware and flashers. For your drive situation is a little bit complicated by the fact that there is different firmware variations for GDR-8162B installed in various computers but Dell is listed for some of the versions. Short readme file is included. Its big enough so if you need it just let me know and I'll send it to you.
Best regards,

Others are having the same/similar problems.

Would someone mind sharing these? If we use something like Yahoo! Briefcase (http://briefcase.yahoo.com/), then someone can upload it once and we can all share.

Hi.  I am very glad that you have these firmware upgrades.  I used a flasher for my cd-rw drive and after using it my dvd drive has no longer been functioning. If you would send me those files to Sovine5@marshall.edu i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

To elaborate a little... i ran my cd-rw flasher program... and it encountered an error and closed, and rite after that i noticed that my dvd drive was disabled and would not enable.  Is it possible that the cd-rw firmware program was rewriting the dvd firmware and if that is the case is it possible to repair my dvd drive or is it ruined?  I would still like to attempt to update the firmware.

CDRW firmware on a DVD means you hozed the drive and it cannot be repaired. Its junk now.

I've never heard back from Y.Y.  Viewing his most recent posts he has not logged into the forum and/or checked his PM for quite some time.  As well, I never received an email or PM from him nor do I think that he ever posted the firmware package for the GDR8162B to his Yahoo! briefcase.  Y.Y., I hope you're okay?  I did manage to get into The Firmware Page's site (forum.rpc1.org) but I received a gateway timeout response when trying to download the firmware package for the GDR8162B from their site.  If I should stumble onto something, I'll use RapidShare or MegaUpload to share.  I'll post a direct link for download to this thread should I get my hands on the firmware package.
