Need hard drive for laptop. Which is best?

I am having Dell Inspiron N5010. I have purchased it 4 years ago. But now it is not working properly. When I run diagnostics it show hard drive problem. But I am confused which hard drive is good. I compared on internet. But there are many types of hard drives. There are 2.5 and 3.5 inches available. Moreover different RPM are available-5400 and 7200. Which should i use? And is there any problem of brands?

You need a 2.5" drive that's 7 or 9.5 mm in height.  There are just three manufacturers left - WD, Seagate and Toshiba.  Of those, the first two provide better end-user support than the third, though the hardware is more alike than it is different.   You can use either 5400 or 7200 rpm drives.

On this model, replacing the hard drive is not trivial - it requires a complete system teardown (see the video below).

use caution when deciding the size of the HD. 500gb should be ok but dbl check. if you can , get a 7200rpm and see a big speed change. good luck and read enj63 post on new HD install.

The Crucial M500 or Samsung 840 Evo 2.5" Solid State Drive is also an option.

The price per GB is much higher than a conventional hard drive but the performance boost with a Solid State Drive are significant.
