OptiPlex GX240 Small Desktop PC Hard Drive Upgrade

I am looking to upgrade the hard drive in an old OptiPlex GX240 Small Desktop PC. It currently has a 10GB Seagate IDE/PATA hard drive installed. Would the Western Digital WD Blue WD800AAJB 80GB 7200RPM 3.5-inch IDE/PATA  hard drive or something similar be compatible with this system?

These are the current specs for the PC:

Intel Pentium 4 1.8GHz processor

256MB PC133 SDRAM

Windows XP Professional 2002 (SP2) with Office Pro

CD-ROM Drive

Floppy Drive

56K Modem

Yes, the drive will work.

It is also past time to retire XP and upgrade -- support for XP (security updates) ceased on April 9, 2014.

All of those will be taken care of when you reinstall WIndows (or clone the existing drive) -- or as part of installing Linux.

Thanks for the quick answer and I will be moving away from XP and installing a Linux OS. Will I need to update the drivers for the hard drive and other components (i.e. CD-ROM drive, Floppy drive , RAM...) before upgrading them?
