PLDS DVD+RW DH-16ABS - software installs from DVD do not complete

Hi,

I might one of the dwindling number of XPS 8300 owners.  I've been unsuccessful installing TurboTax 2017 from a brand new DVD.

I tried reinstalling TurboTax 2015 with same result.  Windows Explorer shows the TurboTax 2017 icon.  I can get the installation to start, the TurboTax install banner pops-up, the drive winds up but then nothing.

Music CDs and video DVDs work fine.  I wondering if this is a WIN10 issue?

You'll want to see if there is a known issue of that version of Turbo Tax with Windows 10.

Duh, apparently TurboTax has a mass-casualty event underway with WIN10 - thanks ieee488

App loads from DVD with setup.exe set to WIN8 compatibility mode (TurboTax temp workaround).

Try copying the contents of the DVD to a folder and install from there.

There is nothing magical about installing from the DVD itself.

Hi ieee488,

I forgot to mention above I already copied DVD to a folder on my desktop.  When I click setup.exe, the 'user control panel' asks if I want to proceed, then the TurboTax banner presents preparing files, but stops here:

I've waited for 30 or minutes and nothing further happens.  I tried another software DVD getting the same result.

Thus my thought this might be a WIN10 issue and I need to move this another forum.
