Raid 0 and SSD compatable?

I recently purchased an XPS9000 with a raid 0 configuration and am installing an Intel SSD. The problem is setting up the bios - Dell has it set up to something other than AHCI as reccomended by Intel.

What does AHCI mean and what do I need to do now?

Anybody else running this configuration?

Thanks

John

AHCI - Advanced Host Controller Interface.  It takes the place of the earlier ATA-6 spec'd IDE drives and provides a few nice features that the older drivers did not have, such as command queuing and hot connect.

If you have a RAID 0 your SATA controller has already been set to use the AHCI and your operating system is presently using the appropriate driver.  You should be able to choose an empty port, enable it in the system setup, and use it (once it has been partitioned and formatted).

Thanks Jack.

The HDD is installed and functioning, however the bios is not set up as AHCI (it's grey'd out) right from Dell and Intel (maker of the SSD) says to enable AHCI...

Still confused...

Your SATA controller must be set to RAID On in order to have a RAID of any type in this machine.  RAID On does enable RAID capability, but it also enables AHCI.  If your computer was not in AHCI mode, you could not have RAID, it's just that simple.
