Roxio software

I just installed my new Dell XPS 410. This came with Roxio Creator Plus installed. I have not tried to record yet, but have a question. Almost 2 years ago, I purchased a full version of Roxio Media Creator 7.1. It has worked perfectly for me and I understand how to use it.

Is there any reason to use the Dell version, or would it be acceptable to uninstall this and install the full purchased Creator 7? It is not the newest version, but does everything and more than I need.

Your input would be appreciated.

If you have the Dell Roxio on disk, give 7.1 a try.  The only problem might be that Roxio 7.1 may not support the newer SATA optical drives used in the 410.  You can always uninstall and reinstall the Dell copy.

You could also try posting on the Roxio forums, or emailing tech support if you don't have a disk with the newer version.

You might find the current version is better feature wise and may be easier to use.  I use Nero so I usually uninstall the Dell supplied stuff and install it.
I ran windows vista check and it said my version of nero was not compatible so I upgraded and you might check that with your version if you are going to vista soon.

Thanks for your comments. I will try the Dell version first. I am just getting my computer set up.

I believe that the new flashbios for the 410 corrects some issues with the newer SATA optical drives.

I had a relatively new Double layer DVD recorder in my old computer, and the Roxio 7 suite worked fine with that. At any rate, I haven't given the Dell supplied stuff enough try. The only thing I miss is the Photosuite which came with the Suite. However, I have tried the MS Digital Image software that comes free, and find it acceptable as a photo organizer and enhancing tool. I do not like some others such as Picassa.

I'm unable to write with the CD drive on a new XPS. I'm trying to fix the problem by copying Roxio Easy CD Creator from a 2004 Dell. This problem is frustrating because there are no error messages and no problems reading CDs. In other words, it looks like the data has been written because there are no errors, however, the CD is still blank after the write program finishes.

Also, it seems that the disc is made unusable; the 2004 Dell cannot read a disc that has been "processed" on the CD drive. I'm using the same brand CD discs on the XPS as I have used on the 2004 Dell. Without any error messages, the problem must be with a new driver on the XPS, Roxio or Dell. I don't have re-installation software for Roxio. I'm not able to get Roxio Easy CD Creator working on the XPS.

What version # of Roxio are you trying?  A version from 2004 may not support the newer SATA drives used in the current XPS models.

You should know that Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 will not work with IE 7. If you have upgraded to IE 7, you will need to revert back to IE 6 or go to at least EMC 7.5.

I don't know the Roxio version# because it isn't shown under "About This Software". What is more disconcerting is that when I register, the first page that I see is a giant advertisement to buy Roxio 9.0 for $70. As you can see below, all of the copyrights are 2004 and 2005. Dell shipped this machine September 2006, and I don't plan to spend $70 with Roxio to make the CD burner software WORK; I plan to use another source. It should have worked before they shipped the machine. The software name is "Roxio Creater LE - Dell Edition" - no version# in the name??

I use IE7, so it is very useful that someone has already checked Roxio 7 with IE7. Thank you. I will stick with the Dell version on my new Dell 410.
