SSD for Inspiron 2350
Hello,
Is it possible to change the HDD of my Inspiron 2350 to an SSD? It came by default with a WD 1TB HDD + 32GB SSD for caching.
I'm looking to replace the small SSD with a 512GB SSD for OS and keep the 1TB for data. Is that possible?

Yes it is -- you need an mSATA drive (NOT the newer M.2 NGFF drives that look similar at the connector and are displacing mSATA from the market quite rapidly of late).

Hello braisim,
I got a new 500GB mSATA here:

Used the Intel Storage Manager to stop using the current mSATA as a cache drive, replaced the mSATA, and installed a fresh OS. I kept the old WD 1TB HDD for data only.
This has "Significantly" improved the performance of my PC.

THanks for that. I also ordered a 500GB mSATA from amazon which willa rrive any day.
My system has an empty mSATA slot, uses SSHD instead. I will clone the SSHD onto the mSATA SSD and then remove the SSHD when I boot for the first time, system I hope will boot from the mSATA SSD. I will then reformat the SSHD and use for data.
As well as making necessary changes in BIOS, it seems like after installing the mSATA SSD I should check the Intel Rapid Storage Technology settings to make sure the mSATA is not configured as a cache drive.

Thanks I'm going to clone the original HDD and try and boot from the mSATA SSD. A shot in the dark, though, as doesn't seem to be possible to boot using legacy BIOS and UEFI only offers 'Windows Boot Manager'. Will see how it goes.

Well that was easy. Cloned the disk, disconnected the old HDD and rebooted the PC. Booted straight into Windows no problem. No need to do anything in BIOS. Thanks for your help anyway.
