Storage space

HI guys and gals! I am planning on download a couple movies and other files that take up large amounts of space (games, music, etc...). the most important part about this is that i keep up with how much space everything is taking up to make sure that my notebook runs as fast as it can at all times. How do i monitor the amount of space and cpu usage each of these is using? thanks a lot!

Hi Hunter,

Open Computer in Windows 7 and the default view shows your hard drive and its available space, like this:

So you can quickly see how much of each drive is taken up be files. If your free space gets down to below about 20-25%, then it's definitely time to put those large files on an external drive. I presume you have one of those for backup.

As far as CPU, files on the hard drive do not use any processing power until the application accesses them, so nothing there to really worry about.
