TSSTcorpDVD+-RW SN-208BB

My laptop (Inspiron N5110) was working fine on Sunday, August 19, 2012.  I could play CDs and DVDs in it.  On Monday when I went to burn a home made DVD, my DVD drive was not found on my laptop.  I have uninstalled all the stuff that was installed on Monday the 20th.  I have tried to uninstall the DVD/CD drive and reinstall it.  But nothing.  Please help.  This laptop is only 4 months old.  I keep getting this error:

Hi

Sorry for the inconvenience that you are facing with your new laptop.

I would suggest you to perform below mentioned steps to resolve the issue:

1: Once you restart the computer tap F2 to go to BIOS and check whether the DVD drive is listed in BIOS or not.

2: Once you go to BIOS press F9 on the keyboard to “Load Default”. Restart the computer in normal mode

Check the DVD drive is working now or not. If it still doesn’t work, download and run MS-Fix IT which will help you to resolve the issue:

Hope this will help you. Feel free to reply

Thanks & Regards

Hi Tony27,

What happened when you ran the Microsoft Fit-It utility? It should have given you a report of whether any problem was found or fixed.

I did what Dell Kaushal P said and my DVD drive isnt listed in my BIOS. I ran Microsoft-fit-it utility and it said.

"The Device is unable to be located. It is recommended that computer is shut down. The CD/DVD device cables and power connection have been unplugged and then plugged back in to insure proper connection. If there is a power switch please turn it off and then back on. If drive is still unable to be located then contact your manufacturer."

Idk what to do.

Ok, so not even Fix-it could find your drive. :emotion-7:

It's possible your drive has failed. Please click the link below to go to my troubleshooting guide and follow the instructions to perform the Dell diagnostics on your DVD drive. Let's see if there is maybe a hardware problem.

Click start -> Type 'manager' without ' mark in the start search. Open device manager.

Under DVD/CD Drive what is listed? does it have any Yellow !

Try the upper and lower filter trick - link found in osprey4's signature.

Double click the DVD drive and post the device status.

Run Dell Online PC Diagnostics

www.dell.com/.../19

Choose Component -> Optical -> Run Diagnostics

ok. I did the upper and lower filter trick and it worked. Thanks again. What would cause the drive to suddenly stop working.

it's caused by the dvd burning software like roxio. Glad to know your computer works well now and your issue is fixed. :-)
