Siyam010

Error 2000-0146 indicates a failed/failing hard drive or bad drive sector.

Basically, this means your hard drive will need to be replaced.

Hi Siyam10,

First thing, of course, is to make sure your important files are backed up.

Second, please run the Dell diagnostics on your hard drive. I've got a link to the procedure below. Use the option to run the test from your Dell drivers and utilities disc.

Thank You for your reply. I bought my laptop 3months ago & I use it carefully. I am surprised to see my hard drive error. Dell should use long lasting parts in their product.

Hi Siyam010,

Hard drives of all types can fail without warning at any time. You are fortunate that your received a warning before there was a complete failure.

Siyam010
Hard drives are mechanical devices and as such will fail, it's just a question of when.

I've had a new hard drive fail in less than 30 days of purchase and many others fail within a year, yet have a 10+ year old IDE hard drive installed in an external enclosure still running, hence the reason for warranties and the reason for keeping your data backups current.

As you should have a warranty, contact Dell's Technical support for a replacement hard drive.

Thanks osprey4 & shesagordie.

I'm from Bangladesh. In our country there is no DELL service center, only there are some Dell Partners. This laptop was imported from Malaysia. I will take my laptop to the seller. But I don't think he will send it back to Malaysia or replace the hard disk. They are providing only some servicing warranty but not replacing. So I'm worried about my laptop :( How can I get help from original DELL servicing center? My web account showing me that I've a international warranty valid until 28-Jun-12.

The hard drive is failing - replace it with a new one.
