UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

I turned on my computer today to find the blue screen of death stating "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"

I have a Dimension 4500 desktop computer

I've tried running the chkdsk /r command and it freezes at 10%

Apparently I need a new hard drive but I'm completely lost here. I don't know which one to buy or how to go about installing it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could I use this hard drive?

Re: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

Hi Coaster,

Unfortunately my friend you have landed in the Dimension-CD/DVD conference. You may be better served from our Regulars that frequent the Dimenion-Hard drive conference, so I would suggest you consider posting your question there.
Since you mentioned the chkdsk /r command, I am assuming you have reviewed the following Microsoft article:

Did you try the other suggestion in regards to Windows XP Recovery Console?

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do
and the eyesight to tell the difference.
