Upgrade RAID drives

I have 2 500G HDD in a RAID configuration on my Inspiron 530.

Can anyone help explain how to upgrade these to 2T drives.

Do I just buy 2 3.5" SATA drives, and replace one at a time?

WHere do I find the RAID SW to check it recognises the new HDD?

Any risks I should be wary of?

Thanks!

Yes big risks when doing this stuff.  If you mess it up all the existing data can go poof.   So, back up the entire volume to an external USB before messing around.

If you replace one at a time the RAID manager may "cap" the available space to 500GB (assuming you are running RAID-1).   This is because logically with RAID-1 (or RAID-0 for that matter) the smallest has to win.

What I would recommend (if you absolutely must retain your o/s and program files) is to put in the 2TB drives, set them up as a RAID-1, then clone from the 500GB partitioned array onto those drives.  Then, you'll need to allocate the remaining 1.5TB of RAW or available space after booting it up.

Of course, if you have 4 sata ports why mess around?  Just add a 2TB RAID-1 to the system and use it as a data drive.  Most people (maybe all people) don't need 500GB worth of space for the O/S and program files.
