WD External Drive and BSOD

I have a Dell Studio XPS 435T with Vista Home Premium SP2, 64bit, 6 GB RAM. I have installed a Western Digital My Book 1.5 TB external drive. When I try to install an update of the Firmware/Software for the My Book, I get the BSOD and then my computer reboots. The BSOD goes by so fast I am unable get any data from it to begin my research into solving the problem. I have talked with WD Support but they were unable to solve the problem. WD has never encounter this problem before.

Has anyone on this forum encounter this problem?  If so,  I am interested in anyone's thoughts/suggestions on this problem.

thanks and regards

PS; Vista is upto date on all updates and patches ths MS has to offer. I also have Dell A14 BIOS update.

Re: WD External Drive and BSOD

Hi, johnb,

The first thing you need to do is turn off automatic restart.

Do that, then write down the error and post it.

"WD has never encounter this problem before." Yeh, right!!
