XPS 8500 mSATA drive not recognized

I just installed an Intel SSD 525 series 120GB drive on the mSATA motherboard connector on my XPS 8500.  After booting the computer, the new drive is not recognized by Windows.  It does not show up in disk manager at all.  Is there any setting/configuration that would turn off the mSATA port/connection (e.g., in the BIOS, etc.) that would explain it being invisible?  Or, is it likely just to be a defective SSD?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.
