XPS13 New SSD install

Hi, i installed a new Mushkin SSD in my XPS13 running 64 bit Windows 7.  When I try to re install the operating system I get stuck after a "A required CD/DVD device driver is missing " message comes up.  This error screen gives me the option to install the driver by inserting a disk or flash drive or browsing to the driver location. The problem is that no matter what form of device I plug into the USB ports, none are recognized making it impossible to proceed.  I have tried changing the options in setup, but none has allowed this laptop to see anything other that what is loaded in the BIOS.  It is strange that it does read the operating system disk from flash and external DVD. I have several copies of W/7 and they all do the same thing.

If anyone has any knowledge on this topic I would sure appreciate help.

Thank in advance!

Jim Stewart

RE: XPS13 New SSD install

Are you using Windows 7 media with SP1 already on it?  You need that for this system.

RE: XPS13 New SSD install

Yes it says it is SP1, I have the disk that came with the laptop as well as a repair disk that I made. I also have a clean copy of W7 SP1 64 bit.

The USB port becomes unresponsive after I get the missing driver error.

RE: XPS13 New SSD install

Hi Stewcrew2,

This error usually means there is a problem with the installation disc. My suggestion would be to perform the installation from a flash drive.

osprey4,

I should have mentioned that I tried that.  I think I have a way to get it running again.  I located an image file I created of the original hard drive just after installing all programs.  I have ordered a micro SATA-USB  cable which should allow the new drive to function after transferring the image file to the new drive.

Then it's definitely a problem with the ISO. Let me know if transferring the image works.
