drive mismatch problem

I recently tried to install windows 98 on my studio 1536 on the d drive. the laptop was used and contained no data on the recovery drive so i used it for 98. after booting a floppy dos disk(needed to install 98 for some reason) the pc now fails to boot windows.

i tried to run the repair option from the installation cd and it states that windows vista is installed in the e drive(cd drive) and the e drive has the 320 gb of storage. when the c drive is obviously the real hdd that windows vista is installed on and has 320 gb of storage.

i have never encountered a problem like this before and i can't find a solution searching google. if anyone has any idea how to fix this misreading of the drives please help. I called dell customer support and they wouldn't help me without me giving them the information of whoever registered the computer in the first place.

So how exactly did you "acquire" this computer?
