hard drive upgrade for dell inspiron 640m

I have dell inspiron 640m with 100Gb hard drive with the following specifications:

Primary Harddisk: TOSHIBA MK1032GSX

Chipset: Intel 955XM/945GM/PM/GMS/940GML

BIOS: Dell Inc. A03

ATA/ATAPI Version: ATA/ATAPI-6

IDE (ATA) Controller: Chip Intel 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7-M Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller

I would like to know if I can upgrade the hard drive to 200Gb? As I understand, I am now using

ATAPI-6 but is it possible for me to change it to SATA hard drive with 200Gb? If yes, what are the

specifications that i need to keep in mind before purchasing a new hard drive for my laptop?

thanks in advance

You have a SATA drive now, not ATA-6.  Yes, you can use a 200G drive.

My apologies but from where we can check if I have SATA hard drive?

What is the maximum hard drive that I can use for my laptop? Any brand you can recommend? :)

Do I need to check other components for compatibility issues like Bios, Intel chipset version, etc. if I will upgrade it to 200+ hard drive?

many thanks :)

You should not face any size restriction.  I would go with Seagate, Samsung, WD or Fujitsu.  If you want a 7200 rpm drive, the choice are Seagate, Fujitsu and Hitachi.

Here are Toshiba's specs on your current drive:
