switching drives in desktop

OKay i have a pioneer 110 drive, i switched that with the original internal drive in the dell dimension 5100. with the new 110d drive in, windows will not pick it up. someone told me that dell computers only read dell burners internal is this true, I dont believe that.  Is there some settings i have to change in the bios. thanks for reply

is the drive seen in BIOS?

Dell uses industry standard drives.

Hi Nikekido,

To add with Dag`s Please check your jumper settings. Dell ships their systems using the Cable Select jumper settings (CS), not Master/Slave. If your jumper setting is correct, enter the BIOS and verify that the drive is turned on.

Best Regards!

also where in the bios do you look to see if it is recognized, in the boot menu where it says standard cd drive or something?

on that back there are 4 pairs of pins, its in the furthest slot to the right on the 110 pioneer, which one should it be on?

Hi Nikekido,

There should be some type of labeling, CS, CSEL, Cable, MA, MS, SL.
I will try to search the net for the specs on this drive; for now see if this link will shed any light on the subject.

To enter the BIOS, follow this link:
5100 series
Scroll down to Drives, then Drive 0 through 3

Best Regards!

It should be 5 pairs of pins.  Take a look at the manual, page 8.  There's a picture of the jumper settings.  It should be on CS.

Hi Nikekido,

You should see the option to turn them on or off. You would need it turned on.
