Unisphere for VMAX

OK not sure if this is the correct place but I have just stared looking at the training course content for SYM TA and the Unisphere for VMAX elearning module has the following Enginuity requirements;

Whereas as the 1.6 Unsiphere for VMAX Installation Guide details it as follows;

Symmetrix Enginuity

Unisphere supports the following Symmetrix Enginuity versions:

◆ Symmetrix VMAX 10K/20K/VMAX Series systems running Enginuity 5875 or higher

◆ Symmetrix VMAX 40K Series systems running Enginuity 5876 or higher

◆ Symmetrix DMX systems running Enginuity 5671 or higher

Note: The Performance option requires Enginuity 5773; or 5874 or higher.

Which is correct?

Victor you should look at the Release Notes as well. The information in the training material is correct. It is an expansion of the information from the Unisphere for VMAX 1.6 Release notes.

Per the Unisphere for VMAX 1.6 Release Notes:

 

Unisphere supports the following Symmetrix Enginuity versions:

 

Symmetrix VMAX 10K/20K/VMAX Series systems running Enginuity 5874 or

 

Symmetrix VMAX 40K Series systems running Enginuity 5875 or higher

 

Symmetrix DMX systems running Enginuity 5671 or higher

The training Materials expand on the above bullets.

VMAX 10K arrays were called VMAXe when they were first introduced. VMAXe arrays were introduced at 5875. So you can never have a VMAXe or VMAX 10K at 5874.

In general the Training Materials are expected to be correct. Always look at the exam description before you take the exam as it indicates what versions of a product it supports. If you believe that you missed out on a question becasue of an inaccuracy in the training material you can contest the same.

So in summary in this instance the Training Material is correct. The 1.6 release notes are correct. In this instance the installation guide is incorrect. Unisphere for VMAX 1.6 does support Enginuity 5874.

This leads me to my 2nd question. Should one prepare based on the training material even if incorrect? i.e. are the exams based on the training material even if incorrect so if the Enginuity version came up which one is correct for the exam?

Victor ..this is probably not much help but I am running 73 on dmx4 and unisphere 1.6 collects and manages this box without issues.

Thanks Dynamox. The DMX is consistent on both so happy with that. If this was a production install I would go with the Installation guide requirements but as I am preparing for an exam I am leaning toward just learning what is in the training material assuming the questions are created from this course material as it's reference point (incorrect or not).

Hi Mohammed,

If this will be your first Storage course then I strongly recommend doing the ISMv2 (Information Storage and Management(ISM)) course on https://education.emc.com/guest/training/learning_paths/stf.aspx#

This is an excellent course for a great foundation in a broad spectrum storage networking technologies. You can then specialise in an area of interest. If you wish to get certifications there is an exam for ISM that will give you an associate level certification which is required  before sitting any specialisation certification.
