SupportAssist Not Updating

My SA has not been updating. It stays at 0% then says its experienced an error. I have tried all remediations to no avail. I even reset my PC… TWICE. The first time, the updates worked again but unfortunately I had to reset again because of a non related issue. Now, I’m back at square one. Weirdly, when I first opened SA after a second reset, it said it needed .NET 5 but Microsoft no longer supports it.

Reset WIN 11 PRO, using the "get drivers and downloads" button on the SA home tab. Hope this helps.

I’ve done this. When I delete SA I get it from Dell, but after it installs it won’t update even on website. Alienware Update Works though.

Hi Playkid:

You might find some helpful suggestions in samsuzzoha's 28-Jul-2022 Support Assist Not Updating  if you are having problems with SupportAssist v3.11.4.29.

SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 will not run correctly unless Microsoft (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 is installed - see the minimum system requirements posted for SupportAssist v3.11.4.  Note that SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 specifically requires .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 and will not work correctly with .NET (Core) Runtime v6.x or v7.x. From my Inspiron 5584:

Win 10 Pro v21H2 Control Panel SupportAssist v3_11_4_29 and MS NET Runtime v5_0_17 21 Aug 2022.png

I have no idea why Dell would release a SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 installer on 23-Jun-2022 that requires a .NET (Core) Runtime v5.x, since the download page at https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/5.0/runtime notes that .NET (Core) Runtime v5.0.17 reached end of support on 10-May-2022 and will not receive further security updates.

Dell employee jbilinski posted on 28-Jun-2022 in Admiral1989's SupportAssist - Installation Failed Message that "Dell TechHub replaces Dell Hardware Scan service and is needed to run the Hardware Scan panel" in SupportAssist v3.11.4.29. If you have any problems running a hardware scan in the current SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 go to Start | Windows Administrative Tools | Services and ensure that the new service called Dell TechHub (which should have been added by the SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 installer) as well as the Dell Client Management Service both have a Status of "Running".

There are multiple users reporting here in the SupportAssist for PCs board that they have been unable to install or run SupportAssist v3.11.4.29 (rel. 23-Jun-2022) and many have decided to wait for the next v3.12.1.180 installer that Dell started pushing out to a limited number of machines this past week. I'm hoping that this new SupportAssist version will work correctly with .NET (Core) Runtime v6.x, but we'll have to wait for the the v3.12.1 release notes to be posted at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/product-support/product/dell-supportassist-pcs-tablets/docs before we know if the system requirements have changed again.
