Unable to install Dell SupportAssist Remediation

Hi all,

I have a XPS 15 9550 with Windows 10, and lately I noticed that this Dell SupportAssist Remediation would automatically start running at night and when it does it takes about half of the computer memory.

I decided (perhaps mistakenly) to uninstall it but when I do, the progress bar of the uninstaller window would get stuck at around 60% for hours and this PostOnce program (which I assume is the uninstaller) would take up to 90% of memory. I have attempted this several times but each time I have to kill the program because it is taking way too long.

I am wondering if it is safe to kill the uninstallation, and if there are other ways to uninstall Dell SupportAssist Remediation? Any help would be much appreciated.

Here is a screenshot of the uninstaller window when it got stuck:

And here is the log file generated upon killing the uninstaller process:

I'm having issues with the Dell SupportAssist Remediation since 2 days. Taking >1.1GB of memory on my XPS 9550. No action taking till now to resolve, will start doing so now but any Dell advise would be great.

I am having the same issue, I didn't notice it before today.  I notice my XPS 8900 will be slow and the Dell SupportAssist Remediation is taking 75% of the RAM.  I have been killing the process.  I notice Dell SupportAssist was auto-updated on 12/3, I wonder if that did it.  I found online to make sure you are on the latest Dell Foundation Services, I checked and I am.

I tried to uninstall this today and it got 2/3 of the way and then just never completed, it just sits there  and never moves, just like the original poster said.  Is anyone from Dell reading these?

I disabled the Dell SupportAssist Remediation service and seems ok so far.

I'm having the same problem with an XPS 8910.  Support Assist Remediation starts and runs with HUGE memory consumption, and I cannot uninstall the program.  When I try to run the Repair program, it is looking for viceinstaller.exe and DellSupportAssistRemediationServiceInstaller.exe which are apparently missing.  When I stop the program, it sometimes works for a day or two, and sometimes starts right back up again.  Computer is a 2016 model and have had no problems until the last couple of weeks.  I am surprised that Google is not blowing up with this problem.

I saw the same problem of excessive memory usage (2.5G+) on a friend's computer and was able to uninstall the Dell SupportAssist remediation and some sort of agent app to prevent it reinstalling.

The problems began after the computer updated to Windows 10 Fall Creator's update.   Another small business owner mentioned slowdowns and it seems to be the same program.

I had posted this in a thread on the new user's forum and now that thread has been deleted....hmmm.    I'd like to learn what the "Dell SupportAssist Remediation" program does and how it got installed.  It wasn't installed on any of my Dells; just SupportAssist.   I can't find a good explanation on any of Dell's sites.

this also happens to my dell insipiron 5459 laptop, after windows fall creator update, a lot of irregularities started occurring on the system. Dell support assist remediation uses 1GB of my laptop memory, slowing things down, crashing any other programs I tried to open. And my laptop starts freezing when I try to repair it.

Same issue. Dell Support Assist Remediation was consuming 1/3 of CPU and RAM, and got stuck on uninstalling about 60% through.

Solved by using Revo Uninstaller portable and choosing Forced Uninstall. Something in the registry prevents normal uninstall which Revo solves.

I found a way to uninstall this

When the uninstallation is stalled go to task manager and end the 'Dell SupportAssist Remediation' task (NOT the PostOnce). The uninstaller will immediately close. Then end the PostOnce task. After that again uninstall this through Control Panel. It will disappear once and for all.

I just wanted to say thank you for posting the solution.

In the last 2 weeks my Dell SupportAssist Remediation has been using 90% of my 16GB RAM on my Dell XPS 8900. It always did it will I was using an Adobe program, so it never ended well.

Thanks to you it’s now uninstalled from my machine!

XPS 8910 win10 (Nightmares)

  is right.

Noted it popping up daily in systray with no way 2 close / stop it

Are you referring to add/remove to begin with?

FWIW: I have the following dell "services":

Automatic - delayed start - ALL of them.
1. Dell Customer Connect
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Customer Connect\DCCService.exe"

2. DDVDataCollector
"C:\Program Files\Dell\DellDataVault\DDVDataCollector.exe"

3. DDVRulesProcessor
"C:\Program Files\Dell\DellDataVault\DDVRulesProcessor.exe"

4. DDVCollectorSvcApi
"C:\Program Files\Dell\DellDataVault\DDVCollectorSvcApi.exe"

5. DellDigitalDelivery
"c:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Digital Delivery\DeliveryService.exe"

6. Dell Help & Support
"C:\Program Files\Dell\Dell Help & Support\MDLCSvc.exe"

7. SupportAssistAgent
"C:\Program Files\Dell\SupportAssistAgent\bin\SupportAssistAgent.exe"

8. Dell SupportAssist Remediation
"C:\Program Files\Dell\SARemediation\agent\DellSupportAssistRemedationService.exe"

9. DellUpdate
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Update\DellUpService.exe"

I'd like to remove them ALL but especially DSAR (DSA)

Thank you in advance!

So, my DSA process is utilizing >8GB of my RAM. Is it safe to disable/remove this process without messing with my warranty? I am working, regularly, overnight on school work, and my computer keeps on crashing for apparently no reason. I have been looking through my processes, and this one is a major resource drain.

Is it necessary for my computer to function properly?
