AW 17 R4, SupportAssist messages to update BIOS

I have updated the BIOS 3 times now from SupportAssist messages but realize now it is having me reinstall the same version repeatedly over the same version

Alienware 17R4

BIOS  Version:  SKL1.3.0_KBL1.2.4

Get the same message in my tray every day now, getting annoying.  Any ideas on how to resolve?

This HAS NOT been resolved.  I reinstalled yet again and am still getting the same urgent update recommendation in SupportAssist.

Same problem here. I uploaded it three times - to no avail. Then a Dell Support technician took over control of my machine and did it. To no avail: SupportAssist still asks to urgently update the BIOS to that same version (SKL1.3.0_KBL1.2.4 of June 28, 2018)..

The Dell Support technician wrote later that I would have to reinitialize the system: but that would obviously not solve the issue (the system correctly displays the upgraded BIOS version and since others have the same problem, it is endemic to these machines and/or to the SupportAssist software itself) and cause my system to retrograde to Windows 10 Family, while I had upgraded (freely - and legally) to Pro.

Not to speak of other hardware problems with this machine (Alienware 17R4), like, cover of the keyboard sensitive to my hands and fingers, as if I was touching the touchpad (which I am not). Here too the support spoke of reinstalling Windows, but this is clearly a hardware problem, not a software one!

Alienware_15R3_17R4_SKL1.3.0_KBL1.2.4.exe is still coming up as an urgent update through Alienware Update too.

Is there a timeframe for the next Bios update?

Still getting a prompt to install this duplicate BIOS version.

If Dell can't fix it in a timely manner, why not just remove it until it is fixed so people aren't getting prompts to install something  that is already installed?

Hi Dem Crumblies,

We have fix ready for such kind of issue.

For fixing such issues we need below information.

  • System Service Tag
  • Driver Details
    • You have to click on "More Details" link just next to the driver for which you are facing issue.
    • Share all the exact information from pop-up window.
  • What kind of issue you are facing with that BIOS?
    • Is the BIOS getting installed successfully and even then it's getting prompted for installation.
    • Does BIOS installation getting failed ?

Once you share above details I'll raise ticket against the driver team and they will fix this issue.

Thanks

No, Smarty-Pants.

This is an xml snapshot created within the Alienware Update v3.0 app. of my entire system.

Support may find a conflict with another driver may be causing the issue so,  I listed as completely as possible, my current build and driver versions.

I converted it to html so as it would be easier to read on this forum.

This has been an ongoing issue for over 9 months with multiple posts from multiple people.

Hi Nikhil,

https://ibb.co/jDobkp

Please see attached image. Today (August 10th around 8:15 AM, I was prompted again to install the BIOS update. I installed it again even though I can plainly see that the BIOS version is exactly the same just for benefit of the doubt since Dell claims the issue is fixed).

I restart my computer and around 8:30 AM, I get another prompt to install the exact same BIOS version - 1.2.4.

Pretty annoying to keep getting that notification, especially when it says it is an urgent update.

Ideas?

Hi Dem Crumblies,

This driver is already identified as issue causing to the customer and for this we have added this under driver blacklist.

can you check "C:\ProgramData\SupportAssist\Client\Agent\Config" the date & timestamp of DriverScanBlackListManifest file and let me know.

I'm not able to attach DriverScanBlackListManifest file here if you can send me your mail id as private message so i'll email it you.

Hi Nikhil,

The file you mentioned, DriverScanBlackListManifest.XML has a date modified of August 10th, 2018 at 7:51 AM.

Today (August 13th at around 8:00 AM), I logged in and it is still asking me to install the same BIOS update.

I will send you a private message soon.

Nikhil's solution of replacing the blacklist file with the Dell provided blacklist file has fixed my issue to anyone else with the same problem.
