Difference between VTOC and formatting of drives in Symmetrix
Hi All,
I am a newbie and like to know the difference between VTOC and formatting of drives in Symmetrix.
Do we have to manually VTOC or format newly inserted drives in the Array ?

I've never heard of end users having to VTOC the new disks. As far as I know EMC does that for you.

EMC normally will buld a basic configuration for your array when they install it for you depending on your requirements. If they build out the volumes for you then when they are presented to a system they are a raw type of disk normally needing a format by the host to use them. Do you need to do something to the entire array? No you do not.
