EMC->Hitachi Migration

They have many EMC boxes which going to be replaced with VMAX. The 30% of the data would be moved to Hitachi and remaining to EMC VMAX at later stage. My queries are only for Hitachi....... Any thoughts would definitely help!

When you go out from EMC to Hitachi, its better to check with Hitachi for accurate support.

Otherwise, I would suggest using host based migration like Powerpath Migration Enabler (PPME) which is more time consuming and performance worried than the array based as it consumes host resources. The benefit, with PPME you can switch between source (EMC) and target (Hitachi) before you run the "commit".

EMC OR hot push can be used for data migration from EMC DMX3 to Hitachi (you can check the support matrix for Hitachi model).

PPME might be a good option only IF Powerpath can manage your Hitachi devices. Kindly refer to support matrix for latest version of Powerpath. If not then EMC Open migrator can do the job.

PPME is free of charge if you currently pay for licensed version of PowerPath.

As someone mentioned, you have to check hitachi community.. but alas that doesn't exist.

1. Hitachi arrays support storage virtualization, which is the optimal way to migrate.

If you are customer, you can negotiate migration as part of purchase. Hitachi will land something called USP VM or equivalent which will be used for migration.

Are migrating to VSP?

This is purely a Hitachi question, not EMC

For the virtualization part, if you mean VMware ESXi or Hyper-v 2012, then consider using Storage vMotion for VMware or Migrate -->VM storage for Hyper-V 2012.

The solution can be built based on "Open Replicator" and "VSP - HUVM"........

And definitely there would be challenges when you opt for OR and HUVM will reduce the challenges....
