How to delete the rdf group which is offline in source symm. Currently remote symm is disconnected from the source box, when i am trying to delete the rdf group in the source box it says rdf group is offline. Is there any way to remove the rdf group?
The symrdf half_deletepair is designed to delete one-half of a designated dynamic SRDF pair.
Deleting one-half of an SRDF pair
The half_deletepair command allows you to dynamically remove the SRDF
pairing relationship between R1/R2 device pairs. One-half of the specified device
pair is converted from an SRDF device to a regular device. The command can be
specified using a device file or device group. When specified using a device file, all
devices listed in the first column of the file will be converted to regular devices
Srinivas is looking to delete an entire RDF group. If the group is a dynamic wouldn't that be the symrdf removegrp command?
If it is an "orphaned" dynamic RDF group (and the links cannot be re-established) then I believe a call to the EMC Support Centre is required. However, please feel free to confirm that I am wrong
Of course, changes to a static RDF group requires help from a friendly EMC Support Representative (i.e., a bin file change).
symrdf removegrp command will need to talk to remote frame, if that box is offline you are SOL, when you use half_delete ..it will simply delete its local group without trying to talk to the other box. It used to be a bin change but now with half_delete don't need to be.
Hello All (and thanks Dynamox!!),
I used to see these issues when I worked in the Support Lab (where the remote box has been disconnected after a successful migration) and the PSE's resolve everything. I am aware that symrdf removegrp won't work once the links are down and symrdf half_deletepair DOES work. However, having rechecked with some colleagues, I really don't think it can remove the unwanted dynamic RDF group? The command works on the device level so formerly paired DRx volumes can be converted back to local but the empty RDF group will remain. The orphaned empty unwanted group would not cause any issues and can be deleted by the EMC Support Center (with PSE Lab "black magic"). The PSE Lab will do this cleanup when the EMC CE loads the bin to convert the unwanted RDF adapter (RF or RE) back to a front-end channel (FA or SE). If the symrdf command DOES work, that is great!! But I just can't confirm it. Also (to avoid confusion) with staticRDF groups (and static RDF device pairs), once the links are down you have to get your friendly EMC Support Representative involved to build a new bin, refer to emc128435 (this also discusses the half_deletepair) .
I was able to remove dynamic nonfunctional rdf group that had remote array director marked as "-", with -symforce command.
this is SymCLI 8.2
symrdf -sid XXX removegrp -rdfg YYY -symforce
