Hi,

You can follow these steps to install SMC:

1) Install SE

2) Present atleast 6 GK devices to it.

3) Install the appropriate licenses (You will need SMC license also)

4) Discover the Symm in SE using symcfg discover

5) Download the SMC from powerlink ( make sure that you install the right version of SE which is compatible with SMC)

6) Install SMC.

7) To manage VMAX through SMC, default user "smc" should be added to symauth database in VMAX.

You can also refer to

EMC® Symmetrix® Management Console
Version 7.1
Installation Guide

Thanks,

Saurabh

From SMC Installation Guide 7.1 Page 11:

SMC V7.1 has the following perquisites:
Solutions Enabler V7.1 (minimum) must be installed.
Note: The SMC InstallShield wizard will fail if the proper level of Solutions Enabler is not installed on the host.

You can check the respective installation guide and check the prerequisite.

Thanks,

Saurabh

I am too having similar tasks and I need some clarifications on SMC install on windows. As far as my understanding go

1. Install Solutions Enabler on a Host

   i) zone host to vmax

ii) instal solutions enabler and Present atleast 6 GK devices to it.

iii) add required lisence using symlmf

iv)discover VMAX using command symcfg discover

    v) set variable path ( can you tell me how to set variable path on windows)

I know where to add path on windows but not sure on the variable and path values to add.

2. Install SMC

select local/remote & port to use 7443/7070.

Please let me know if I am missing anything here.

The SMC HTTP Secure port should be 8443 and not 7443.

The Solutions Enabler Install should be able to add the install directory to the PATH, if for some reason it doesnt add it, you can right click on "My Computer"....select properties.....Select Advanced Tab.....Select Environment Variables.......Choose Path in System Variables and edit it, and add the bin folder path at the end starting with a semi colon e.g. E:\ECC\Repository\admin\Ramb_scripts;E:\ECC\Repository\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%RAMBOH%\admin\Ramb_Scripts;%EMCSTSOH%\admin\emcsts_scripts;E:\Program Files\EMC\SYMCLI\bin

Hopefully this answers the question.
