SRDF/S - Getting errors trying to create dynamic RDF group

                S Y M M E T R I X   R D F   G R O U P S

    Local              Remote                   Group               RDFA Info
--------------  ---------------------  -----------------------  -----------------
            LL                                      Flags  Dir  Flags  Cycle
RA-Grp  (sec)   RA-Grp  SymmID        T    Name     LPDS  Cfg  CSRM   time   Pri
--------------  ---------------------  -----------------------  -----  -----  ---
  1 ( 0)    10    1 ( 0) xxxxxxxxxxxx  S GROUP_00    .X..  F-H  -IS-      30   33

Attempting to run this command to create a new dynamic RDF group:

symrdf addgrp -label Group_02 -fibre -sid xxxx -rdfg 2 -dir 04d -remote_sid xxxx -remote_dir 04d -remote_rdfg 2

I receive this error message:

'2': duplicate name found in device list.

I've tried using many other numbers for the rdfg parameter, but always got the same result. Anyone experience this and know resolution?

Thanks.

I checked the switches, and it appears FA-4da and -13da are zoned up with their countparts for both Symms.

Here are the configuration states, same on both Symms:

Switched RDF Configuration State     : Disabled
Dynamic RDF Configuration State      : Enabled

Take a look at the 'symcfg list -v' output and see what the values are for the "Switched RDF Configuration State" and the "Dynamic RDF configuration State" are for both the local and remote array.

Yep,

Both flags must be enabled in order to perform Dynamic functions.

I feared this. Does this require a bin, or can I do it via symcli?

Also, I was under the impression that I need to use dyn rdf for SRDF/CE for MSCS, but I'm beginning to think I was misinformed on this. I'm trying to set up an rdf group for Exchange 2003 that will be running SRDF/CE for MSCS.

i would open a ticket with support to verify RAs have been set to "switched"

Yep, requires a bin file.

I would also recommend enabling both the concurrent RDF flags as well, just in case you ever need them.

May save you the trouble of loading another bin down the road.

While I concur that dynamic rdf is the better solution, the customer is reluctant to purchase another bin for this. Can I make this work with static rdf?

If I need a bin, then I would ask for the below, correct? Is there anything else I should ask for in the bin?

Switched RDF Configuration State     : Disabled     (ENABLE)
Concurrent RDF Configuration State   : Disabled     (ENABLE)
Dynamic RDF Configuration State      : Enabled
Concurrent Dynamic RDF Configuration : Disabled     (ENABLE)
RDF Data Mobility Configuration State: Disabled
Access Control Configuration State   : Disabled
Device Masking (VCM) Config State    : Enabled
VCMdb Access Restricted State        : Disabled
Multi LRU Device Assignment          : BY_NUMBER
Disk Group Assignments               : In Use
Hot Swap Policy                      : Permanent
Symmetrix Disk Library               : Disabled
FBA Geometry Emulation               : Native
3 Dynamic Mirrors                    : Disabled

bin only ..sorry.

you want to use dynamic srdf these days, much easier to create pairs, change rdf groups ..etc

interesting to see output from command:

symcfg list -RA ALL -switched -sid 1234

Odd that EMC would enable dynamic RDF but not switched SRDF as it is required.  You need to talk to the account team and get them to fix that for you.

In the RDF edit on the Service Processor - Source Frame , the Remote Serial Number is not identified. This needs to be addressed by the Local Team - Customer Engineer and corrected. This is a Bin File Change.
