SYMM HEAT REPORT

What is the best way to get a snapshot of how the symmetrix is performing?

Can I have EMC run a symmerge for us. We have ECC 5.2 but we hardly ever use it. We currently do not have WLA data to work with.

I wish to see what the hot spots are on all our symmetrix's.

if you are licensed for ECC and performance manager, you can install Symmetrix Performance Analyzer (SPA) and gather statistics about your frames. Another option is to setup storstpd daemon and collect stats that way. Give it to your TC and he can put it into symmerge and give you nice heat maps. New SPA can generate heat maps as well.

I heard some good things about SPA. Is SPA available on powerlink?

We have license for ECC and performance manager, what license keys should we use?

Are there no special license keys for SPA?

how to setup storstpd daemon? Is it a symcli command?

you need .lic file for SPA license.

you also need SPA base license.

stordaemon start storstpd

stordaemon setoption storstpd -name option_name =value

yes, you will need to ask your EMC account manager/TC to get you a key, it's capacity based key so you will need to provide information how much storage is currently in your array. You can download SPA from powerlik  (SMC and SPA products have been combined into one as of version 7.2).

storstpd is a service that you can select to install during Solution Enabler installation. Take a look at SE installation guide and it explains how to configure it, start/stop collections.

SPA 2.1 requires 8 GB Free RAM and you would need to request for ELM (electronic licenses) from your sales team.

Great I have the daemon running but I am not able to find where the TTP files are stored.

I checked the log and it seems to be running.

When the doc states TTP files that is the extension correct?

Ok. I got the daemon running using

stordaemon action storstpd -cmd start

It is still not collecting any data... I went into the logs and it says "Start TTP Request ignored. TTP is currently disabled"

Here is the "

stordaemon show storstpd" output

I figured it out. Thanks to everyone who helped. Used emc243381.
