Symmetrix recreate the pair relationship without device group(using device file)

Hi Guys,

I am trying to clean up some old device pairing for snaps/clones that are no longer needed. i have ran the 'symdg list', there are no device groups allocated from the vmax.

I have few Source luns that are Paired to Target Luns.

The Problem is few pairs are in Recreated state and other pairs are in Copied state. Is this Normal?

My Colleague is asking to change few pairs to Recreate state from copied state.

What is Copied state and recreated state

output:

Re: Symmetrix recreate the pair relationship without device group(using device file)

Jaii,

looks like someone has done a recreate on a subset of devices, this has been done with the precopy condition to start a background copy state.  recreate -copy is a way to get a differential copy of your data onto the clone.  These devices have not yet been activated.  When you issue an activate against these pairs that will set the point in time image of the target and any remaining tracks will finish and will move to copied state.

You should check in your audit log to see when this was issued, you can search a date range for the devices in question and you should be able to find out when this was done and who issued the command.

If you simply want to terminate these you can put the devices in a file  in the following format

00385 00435

symcone -sid xxx -f filename terminate

you may need to add the -force option on those that are in the recreated state .

Hi Paul,

You are saying that Some one used Recreate to copy the differential data from Source to Target, right?

Some of the devices are in Copied state.

What does this activate mean? Could you give me some clear clarification.

How to check the audit log?
