How is it that we can have 16 copies of s volume through Symmir (8 concurrent) when there are only 4 mirror positons available.

Kindly reply in detail.

Quincy56 is absolutely correct.. Here is the explanation taken directly from the EMC Solutions Enabler Symmetrix Timefinder Family CLI guide for version 7.1. found on page 20:

TimeFinder/Mirror

is another family component that works in Symmetrix

DMX environments running Enginuity 5773 and earlier. Starting with

Enginuity 5874, there is a single technology that is in use, which is clone

emulation. In environments running Enginuity 5874 and higher, all

TimeFinder/Mirror scripts are executed in Clone Emulation mode.

Because symmir has an "emulation mode", and you are using Clones instead.  I think it is better to use the native symclone commands where possible to avoid confusion.
