Can someone point me in the right direction?

SUBMITTING ON BEHALF OF BRETT_KEOHAN@DELL.COM

I have specific questions. However, I’ve only been able to find techs at dell with a very general idea of how to work with IPMI and haven’t gotten very far.

• Biggest question: I need to know the minimum server types that will support AC power readings for the power supply (i.e. the input current or wattage). Does this require a DRAC. What commands will get this data for me.
• I need to know why certain SDR values in IPMI show as n/a. Does this mean there are no probes or that the sensor is not active
• What is deasserted and asserted mean?
• I need to know the correct commands to pull CPU state information – these values also appear blank
• I need a list of servers that support IPMI 2.0 and 1.5 respectively

I really need to talk to someone who can point me to the correct product set to fill a specific need. This is required for a device spec for a number of large data centers that are in the process of being built.

Here's the TechCenter page that covers which servers support power monitoring - http://www.delltechcenter.com/page/Dell+Servers+capable+of+Power+Monitoring. Note at the bottom of the page that you also need to select power supplies that support the monitoring.

A DRAC isn't necessary as you can get this info directly from the BMC via the powermonitor option of the IPMITool http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/smbmcmu/BMCMU_3_0/en/ug/bmcugc0d.htm#wp1099512 or via OMSA with omreport pwrmonitoring http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/svradmin/5.5/en/CLI/html/report.htm#wp1126121

State information like S4, S3, etc. can be obtained via the terminal mode command SYS HEALTH QUERY http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/smbmcmu/BMCMU_3_0/en/ug/bmcugabb.htm#wp1055361

"8G" or x8xx servers were the first to support IPMI 1.5 http://www.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/global/products/pedge/topics/en/8g_technologies?c=us&cs=555&l=en&s=biz
with "9G" x9xx adding support for 2.0 http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/solutions/9G_commonality.pdf
