Cannot switch idrac6 nic into shared mode

Hi,

I'm trying to switch the idrac6 interface of my r815 into shared mode but racadm then says there is no link detected even though that is the nic I'm accessing the install OS with.

racadm config -g cfgLanNetworking -o cfgNicSelection 2

racadm getniccfg

...
LOM Status:
NIC Selection   = Dedicated
Link Detected   = Yes
Speed           = 100Mb/s
Duplex Mode     = Full Duplex

racadm config -g cfgLanNetworking -o cfgNicSelection 0

racadm getniccfg

...
LOM Status:
NIC Selection   = Shared
Link Detected   = No
Speed           = Unknown
Duplex Mode     = Unknown
Active LOM in Shared Mode = None

On my idrac7 Systems this works fine. Anyone with an idea what is going on here?

RE: Cannot switch idrac6 nic into shared mode

Hello

It looks like the command is working properly. The issue appears to be with link negotiation. I would check the interface settings on the switch to make sure that the interface LOM1 is connected to is not in a LAG, passing tagged frames, or is running any other configuration that could cause an issue with the shared interface communicating with the switch.

RE: Cannot switch idrac6 nic into shared mode

Hi,

I've checked the link settings and also tried various combinations of half-/full-duplex and 100-/1000-mbit speed to no avail. I've also updated BIOS, idrac and NIC firmwares to the latest versions but the moment I switch idrac to shared mode it refuses to see a link which is curious since I access the OS (Linux) through LOM1 and issue the racadm commands and for the Host OS the NIC works fine.

RE: Cannot switch idrac6 nic into shared mode

Try connecting to a different switch or a different port on the switch. Also, try booting into the iDRAC BIOS and check to see if it is able to connect from there.
