DMC - Email Alerts on Critical / Major hardware failures
Dell Management Console 1.0
Server Adminsitrator 5.5 installed on testing server
I downloaded the DMC version 1.0 to see if it could help me out with hardware monitoring. My main goal here, is to be alerted of any hardware failure on a dell Poweredge server I have on my network. I setup a test PE 1850 with Windows 2k3 Enterprise, and have Server Administrator 5.5 installed. I also have the server in question, added to the DMC, and it show up in the "All Dell Servers" container.
On the DMC, I have already setup the following:
- Under Monitoring and Alerting -> Montior -> Policies -> Montior Policies -> Dell Policies -> Device Primary Health, then on the action tabs, I have the Warning, Major, and Critical Actions, running the "Primary Health Email" Task, which should fire off an email when a event occurs.
- I have the Device Primary Health Policy applied to All Dell Devices (which includes my test server only, for now).
So...as a test, I went over and pulled one of the Power Supplies out of the back of the PE 1850, to see if the DMC will alert me of a failure. The console did not show an alert for nearly an hour, and I also didn't recieve an email alert for the policy. So I believe here, that I need to set some polling intervals for my monitors, but not sure where.
Although, I would expect this to be somewhat real-time, as far as monitoring is concerned. So with that, I really have 2 questions on this type of hardware failure reporting.
- Can the DMC alert me in realtime of a Major / Critical Hardware failure on my PE servers? Do I need to configure Server Administraor instead for this?
- Is there a polling interval for my Monitors that I can set, or should I use something else besides monitors for this type of situation?
Thanks in advance...

OK, well, I was able to get this to work...somewhat....
I configured SNMP on the Windows Server to send the Traps to my DMC server. I then sorted out the email portion, by clicking on the Rule, and adding the email task. I tested it, and looks like it's doing it's job, because I get my test email...but my test emails are blank, and don't show any SNMP messages.
However, I would like to see the same trap information on my email message, as I see on the mail DMC console. The console shows me this...
Unfortunatly, I don't see how I can tailor my email, to have the SNMP information included.
SOOOOOO....how can I get this information into an email????
Thanks,
