Hello, You can upgrade the firmware of the iDRAC 8, but you can't upgrade the iDRAC8 to an iDRAC9. The controller is built into the motherboard, and the firmware of the iDRAC's are built to work with particular BIOS versions. The only systems with the iDRAC9 will be the 14G PowerEdge family.
