Problems access OpenManage on ESX 4.0 (not ESXi)
I ran across a script for installing OpenManage on ESX 4.0:
I’m pretty well versed in Linux, and everything installed without error. I also rebooted the server. I have Windows 7 workstation I installed OpenManage on, and when I open it and receive the Managed System Login, I enter the IP address of the ESX host, root as the username, and I’ve tried calvin and the ESX root password, as well as another ESX account, but I continue receiving “Login failed…. Connection timeout). I did a “netstat –at” on the server, and the server is listening on port 1311, the firewall is open, and I can telnet to port 1311 from the client. I’ve searched Google as well as the Dell forums, but I’m not making any progress. I feel this there is an easy remedy, so can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thank you.

Try this one. The installation instructions are at the bottom:

I'm almost there, but I have a problem with dependencies, and I'm not sure exactly which platform to use:
warning: srvadmin-tomcat-7.3.0-4.85.1.vmw40.i386.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 23b66a9d
error: Failed dependencies:
libdsupt.so.1 is needed by srvadmin-tomcat-7.3.0-4.85.1.vmw40.i386
libomacs.so.1 is needed by srvadmin-tomcat-7.3.0-4.85.1.vmw40.i386
Do you have any other ideas? Thank you.

I just realized this was an update package. It wouldn't install over the previous OpenManage installation, so I had uninstalled it and then attempted to install the rpm packages individually when the installer failed.

OK, the new version upgraded just fine, the services are started, I'm prompted to login, but still no go. What credentials does OpenManage use on ESX? Is it root/calvin, root/ , or something else? I've used every combination I can find, but I just can't authenticate. Thanks again.

OMSA uses local logon credentials of the host operating system it is installed on.
Thanks
