Unified Server Configurator & VLAN

Hi all

I'm trying to use Unified Server Configurator from Lifecycle Controller to do a Platform update on a R610 with ESX4i installed.
The problem is: All NIC's are Trunked/EtherChannel'ed, and the default vlan does not have internet access.
Is there any way we can set a VLAN for the Network Configuration that we are able to download the Update Packages trough USC directly from DELL?

Thanks & Cheers

RE: Unified Server Configurator & VLAN

Hello Ebers,

Unified Server Configurator does support VLAN configuration.

Please refer to the VLAN configuration section in our user guide for more information..

Yes, but I'm not seeing how this works with LACP, or even if it can.

Am I missing something?

RE: Unified Server Configurator & VLAN

Hello Ebers,

The VLAN ID Configuration is per Network Port on the server, usage of this vlan ID in LACP environment is usually covered in the Network switch manual from each vendors.

The VLAN ID configured on the network port will work as per the IEEE 802.1Q std.

RE: Unified Server Configurator & VLAN

Thanks for your query.

From the description we understand that the server is in a LAN which does not have internet connectivity. The VLAN ID configured does not have the connectivity to the internet. You might have to reconfigure any of the NIC ports(preferably first port) with a VLAN ID that has an internet connection to use the “ftp” option in FW updates feature in LC UI. This can be done from “Settings->Network settings” in the LC UI on all the 12G Power Edge servers, unfortunately LC UI does not support this feature on 11G servers. If connecting to the internet is not an option for you then we have some alternate ways in which the updates can be done.

 1)      Using Local repository Created using Dell Repository Manager(from USB or Network share). Find the details on how to do this from the links below.

  1. Dell Repository Manager will help you to create a repository with all the latest updates available on ftp.dell.com, which you can then copy to a USB key or a network share and then perform the FW updates from LC UI -> FW updates.
  2. Dell Repository Manager also helps you to quickly find & download the latest supported FW updates available in the dell support site and create a repository using them.

2)      Alternately, Download the Dell update packages for your system and update them through FW update feature in LC UI. You can download the latest FW update packages from here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/ProductSelector. Find the details on how to update the FW using FW updates feature in LC UI from the links given below.
