Update from USB in Lifecycle Controller

Hi,

After many attempts to make update from USB, I finally decide to ask the community.

I have a R820 that I want to update. The Http way (downloads.dell.com) is not working as I need (So slow and usually ends with errors).

The DRM option fives this alert "Some plugins are not available for export" when I try to make a bootable USB.

So I decide to make updates trough Lifecycle Controller from USB. But things are not going well as I hope: Many times it ends by "generic" errors. So I have some questions to figure out what I'm missing:

- USB should have a specific or limited seize to work?*

- I formatted it in FAT32. That's right?

- I downloaded ALL drivers from Dell website MANUALLY. But There is different formats of files (EXE, SIGN, BIN, ....) witch format I should use to update?

- How can I make updates: Can I put all drivers in USB and launch the LC update? In separated folders? In on folder?

One last question: Why it is so complicated to make a simple update ????!!!

Thank you in advance

Hi,

-For using USB as a source, the device has to be formatted as FAT32 to be recognized by the LifeCycle Controller

-If you can update via iDRAC you can use ."exe" format of files.

I'm sharing some different methods you can do easily.

Platform specific bootable this is an ISO for all firmwares

You can use Rufus to make bootable media https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000141551/how-to-create-a-bootable-usb-device-with-rufus-to-update-dell-servers

You can also try to use the virtual media function via iDRAC (if you do not have iDRAC enterprise here trial version https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000176472/idrac-cmc-openmanage-enterprise-openmanage-integration-with-microsoft-windows-admin-center-openmanage-integration-with-servicenow-and-dpat-trial-licenses#noteAgreeToDownload)

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000124001/using-the-virtual-media-function-on-idrac-6-7-8-and-9

Or other than platform specific ISO you can use server update utility for all drivers and firmwares https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=p003w&oscode=ws8r2&productcode=poweredge-r820

To install SUU you can find differents methods on this website https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000128194/updating-firmware-and-drivers-on-dell-emc-poweredge-servers

I believe those documents will help.

Let us know how it goes!
