Why OMSA and iDRAC show me different information aboun storage battery status?

Hi!

I have 4 servers DELL PowerEdge R710 with CentOS 7, iDRAC and Openmanage Server Administrator 7.4.1

On the 1 and 2 server iDRAC shows me, than storage battery state is OK, but OMSA shows "Battery on Controller PERC 6/i Integrated: State Failed"

# omreport storage battery

List of Batteries in the System

Controller PERC 6/i Integrated (Slot Embedded)
ID : 0
Status : Ok

Learn State : Idle
Next Learn Time : 81 days 4 hours
Maximum Learn Delay : 7 days 0 hours
Learn Mode : Auto

And in the 3 and 4 servers iDRAC thinks than storage battery state is OK, OMSA thinks than "Battery on Controller PERC 6/i Integrated: State Failed" and omreport thinks than battery status is critical.

I don't understand what happend with storage battery. Is it OK or not?

I will be really appreciate any help.

Hello

You must pull a controller log to find out what the actual state of the battery is. OMSA is good at warning of issues, but it provides very limited information for finding out what the actual issue is. The battery may still be fully operational, but if the battery falls below a certain absolute charge threshold it will be considered failed. You need to review a controller log to review the full status of the battery.

Thanks

Where I can find controller logs?

There is a section in the controller log that displays absolute and relative charge percentages. You need to post that section for me to tell if the battery capacity is still above failure thresholds.

Сan you point me to the direction I should be taking to troubleshoot this? Unfortunatly, I have no expirience to maintenance the hirdware servers

The system just completed a learn cycle. It is possible to receive false battery errors during a learn cycle, so this error may go away when OMSA services or the system are restarted.

There is a section in the controller log that displays absolute and relative charge percentages. You need to post that section for me to tell if the battery capacity is still above failure thresholds.

If I will upgrade firmware I can lose data on my raid?

Upgrading the firmware should not cause any data loss; However before making any hardware or software changes to a production server you should have a valid tested backup. There is always a possibility that something could go wrong.

Thanks

I have exported controller log via OMSA.

The battery looks good. I think this is just a false error caused by the learn cycle that took place about a week ago.

That battery is failed. The absolute charge is the maximum potential charge amount. 100% equals a 72 hour charge. Once the battery drops below a 24 hour charge it is considered failed(33%). It will sometimes not be marked as failed until it gets to a lower percentage though.
