does r210 offer some kind of remote management?

Hi guys, I own a couple of r210 poweredge, I know I can configure IPMI during boot with ctrl+e and I think they offer a DRAC6 to manage them, the thing is that I cannot access the web page if I configure the IPMI or the DRAC through the uefi bios, so I am wondering, does this model actually offer a remote management system at all?

Thanks!

Freemind,

You will need to have the Idrac Express and the Enterprise installed in the R210 to have Remote Console. Do you have either/both installed? If so then you will need to hit CTRL-E to access the Drac and then configure the IP. Then connect to it via a workstation and connect via  https://(ip assigned to drac).

Once logged into the drac via web interface click on SYSTEM - CONSOLE - then Launch Console.

Here is a manual to help. Page 54 - support.dell.com/.../R210.pdf

Let me know how it goes.

I only have the version of idrac6 that normally ships along the r210 so I guess its the enterprise. I can easily set the ip hitting ctrl+e during boot and I can ping that ip but no interface or any other service (i.e. telnet) is offered on any port

Freemind,

We can enable Telnet/SSH and other service through web GUI session https://IP  .

You can configure these services by navigate to the page Network -> Services .

And can get access to Telnet services .

maybe I did not make myself clear, sorry. I CANNOT access any web interface, if I hit ctrl+E at boot I can configure BMC ip address and enable/disable IPMI, that's all. I can ping that ip but no service is offered, no ports are opened and of course no https page is available, this happens on a standard poweredge r210

hope it's clearer now

There are three options for remote management with the R210. It comes standard with a BMC, you can upgrade to an iDRAC express, and you can also upgrade to an iDRAC enterprise.

If you can ping the iDRAC, but cannot connect via the methods described above then you purchased the R210 with the standard BMC option. The BMC does not allow the connection methods you are attempting. The BMC offers IPMI connectivity and that is all. You will have to connect with a program like ipmitool. If you view the comparison tab on this page it shows the different options and capabilities.

If you want to remotely manage the server then I recommend upgrading to an iDRAC express at a minimum. If you want remote console functionality then you will need to purchase both an iDRAC express and iDRAC enterprise. The iDRAC enterprise requires the iDRAC express to function and is not a stand-alone component.

Thanks
