Cannot Boot Venue 11 Pro
Replaced glass screen (digitizer ) a week ago - which included disconnecting and reconnecting the CMOS battery. Now the machine will not boot up. I only get the DELL splash screen with the 5 white dots rotating in a circle - and then some Advanced Options prompts. I have tried all options and they do not work. I end up in the same place. What do I have to do to get the machine running again? Thank you for any assistance anyone can offer.

Have you tried pressing repeatedly the up volume button after pressing the power on button.
It will get you into the bios. check the order and the boot up settings.
do you have a usb recovery drive?

Thank you for the courtesy of a reply. Yes - I can get into the BIOS.
1. When I select Boot Sequence, there is only one option: "Windows Boot Manager".
2. When I select Advanced Boot Options, I see a checkbox for "Enable UEFI Network Stack" and that box is checked.
3. Under Secure Boot, I can select Secure Boot Enable. The "Disabled" box is checked.
4. Under Secure Boot, I can select Expert Key Management . "Enable Custom Mode" is Unchecked; and under Custom Mode Key Management, the PK option is selected.
I have a thumb-drive I can plug into the USB on the tablet but I do not have a copy of the Windows 8.1 OS that was on the machine when I purchased it from DELL.
I can open a Command Prompt window and see the WINDOWS directory and all the WINDOWS files. But I do not know how to initiate a Boot.
Thank you.

Hi,
You need to have the stick in the USB when you get to the bios or UEFI. Then you will see the option for booting to the stick.
You need to put some operating system on the stick. Format the stick to be bootable. Just make it in another machine, make sure you have the key incase they ask for it but I don't think they will.
You want to get to a command prompt on the C drive. you want to check the drive for errors. Look up how to do this on the internet for detailed instructions.

Thank you for helping me with this. I formatted the thumb drive - but I need to be able to format it AND make it a bootable device and I don't remember how to do that anymore (it has been a long time). How do I make the stick a bootable device? Can I do that without having my Windows Product Key? I have looked all over the house and cannot find that. Do I need to contact DELL with my Service Tag and ask for a Windows Product Key? Thanks again.

Hi, do you have access to Internet from another computer or phone. If you do you need to learn how to find answers online.
The thumb drive is made bootable during the format as far as I know. You won't need the Windows product key which should be on a tag somewhere on the computer if it's a laptop.

Thank you. I made a bootable flash drive and the tablet is trying to boot off of that. I wants to load Windows 8 but is prompting me for the Product Key. This is a Venue 11 Pro tablet and not a laptop - if I pull the cover off the back, I see only the Service Tag. If I contact DELL, will they tell me the Product Key? My purchase is still listed in my Dell account.

Terry, you aré not booting from the flash drive TO reinstall Windows you are doing this to try to repair your computer. If you can talk with Dell I think you should as I can't guide you in this process via a chat board.

Yes - Thank you. I understood that but when I tried to boot from the flash drive, that's what happened.
I contacted DELL this morning. The tech who spoke with me said I need to send the tablet in for repairs. He said it was likely they need to re-image the HD for $159.00. He said it is likely the image got corrupted when I replaced the digitizer and that's why it will not boot up now. I would prefer not to spend the money and keep trying to get the machine to boot but, in the end, I might have to send it in.
Thank you.
