Dell Venue 8 3840 Extremely Slow

I received the Venue 8 as a Christmas gift. I like the size and the screen and thought this was suppose to be decent in the speed department. However mine is extremely slow. Last night I didn't a half hour trying to scroll through facebook. After restarting the tablet, I spent another half hour trying to get to the Dell support page. When I push the back button it can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 2 minutes for it to work. Any ideas on why it is so slow? Anything I can do?

My tablet is also unusable.  I'm really upset that I'm stuck with the worthless device.  Dell won't do anything to help either besides telling me to disable apps...Apps that some how enable themselves again later.

Its not the main board.  Been replaced, but no difference in usability.  I use the term "usability" because this tablet has zero performance.

Even with disabling all the apps, this tablet is still unusable.

What a terrible tablet for to sale!

Don't buy or reccomend this Tablet!!!!

I bought a Venue 8 3840 and I have the same issue as all users. I found a solution. Go to Settings/System/About tablet. Click many times on BuildNumber to activate Developer more. Return to the main menu of Settings. Now, go to {Developer options}. In Background on process limit, choose No background process. The tablet should work fine now.

Best regards.

FINALLY! The solution. I'm not sure if this has always been the case, since I just discovered that it works since the last firmware update, but here it is:  When you boot up the Venue 8 3840 (Android 4.4.4) the FIRST thing to do is open the "My Dell" diagnostic app, and run the self test (Quick Checkup). Then LEAVE IT OPEN and go about your other business on the tablet. The 3840 will then behave normally and not slow down. Mine has now been running for almost two weeks since its last boot, with four apps open including the Firefox browser, and is not showing any signs of slowing down or freezing up... Eureka!

I'm having the same issue. The tablet is essentially unusable. Any ideas out there?

I'm very disappointed in Dell's support of this issue and this tablet. Dell use to have great products and a good registration. They're support off this tablet is annoying and horrible. I really wish Dell would take responsibility and address this issue.

Dell's decision to go with only 1 GB or RAM is this tablet's downfall (the previous version, 3830, with 2 GB of RAM does not seem to have any of these problems). Who knows if Dell with be able to remedy the issue with a software fix, but for now the tablet is pretty much unusable. I received this as a gift as well, so unfortunately I'm stuck with it.

Here are some links I've found documenting the issues with this tablet:

I have an Acer Iconia A500 tablet that had only 1gb of ram and 16gb internal drive. That tablet is not accurate near as slow as the Dell.  So why can't Dell fix this issue?

Why is Dell not answering or explaining this? I would like to know why my Acer is OK but the Venue is not? Can't Dell examine their implementation of these OS and release an implementation that will make the Venue useable?

Same here...  The tablet is so slow.  I wish I never bought it.  On paper it had good specs, but somehow this tablet isn't optimized properly.

I agree, on paper the specs looked good but the product isn't working properly. I really wish Dell would address this issue. We paid good money and they totally ignore us.

So I found a way to make the tablet perform better...

Force stop and Disable the following Apps:
Amazon app suite
Amazon Kindle
Amazon Local
Amazon Music
Android Live Wallpapers
Appstore (Amazon)
Audible
Basic Daydreams
Black Hole
Browser
Bubbles
CamCard
Chrome (I use Chrome Beta from the Play store)
com.android.providers.partnerbookmarks
com.android.wallpaper.holospiral
Email
Exchange Services
Google One Time Init
Magic Smoke Wallpapers
Market Feedback Agent
Music Visualization Wallpapers
My Dell
OpenWnn
Phase Beam
PocketCloud
POLARIS Office 5
Skitch
TalkBack

I will probably end up rooting the tablet and freezing apps with Titanium Backup.

Okay, I rooted the tablet using the T3 method here: Intel Android Devices Root / Temp CWM Session

Make sure you have the Intel ADB drivers installed first: https://software.intel.com/en-us/android/articles/intel-usb-driver-for-android-devices

Then I was able to root and Freeze some additional apps via Titanium Backup, thus freeing up more memory:
AcousticWarning 4.0.1.0
Laucher 4.4.4-31 (DESKTOP) [I'm using the Google Now Launcher]
Live Wallpaper Picker 4.4.4-31
Mobile Data 4.4.4-31 (VOICEMAIL)
Mobile Network Configuration 4.4.4-31 (SMS/MMS/APN)
phone 1.0
Picasa Uploader 1.3.242047

How did this workout for you? Is the tablet usable now? What do you use on the tablet?

What really bothers me is that I did research on this tablet. CNET said it was a good tablet for the price. Did Dell give CNET a different version of the tablet? Sounds like Dell deceived us. That really pisses me off. Dell needs to be held accountable for this.
