Latitude 5179 fingerprint reader disappeared after BIOS update

This happened 4-6 months back when I installed the latest BIOS update at that time. Since then Dell has released another ~3 BIOS updates and I have installed each of them hoping it would correct the issue in which that prior BIOS update somehow made the fingerprint reader disappear. It no l longer exists in the Windows Device Manager or the BIOS (I was hoping to find it there disabled and be able to turn it back on, but unfortunately that is not the case).

So I am no longer able to sign in with my fingerprint. Any ideas on how this can be fixed?
