Question about how the Dell Venue 11 pro charges and the Dell Power Companion

http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/accessories/apd/451-bbkv?ref=p13n_ena_pdp_vv&c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd

Dell makes a Dell Power Companion device that is listed as being able to charge the venue 11 pro, but what is unclear is how it charges. The stock charger does both 5V and 19.5V but it does not detail how it enters the higher voltage. Is it using a communication technology like USB PD, or is it just using a set of pull up resistors on the data line?

The main reason why I want to know, is to determine if it will work with a USB PD capable power bank, as for the price of the dell one, you can often get a significantly higher capacity, though there is no telling if they will provide more than 5V to the dell venue 11 pro.

Hi Razor512,

Thanks for posting.

The Dell Portable Power Companion has the ability to read the attached Dell Power Adapter PSID. Power companion detects whether it is connected to a supported system or not. If this cannot be detected the power companion will shut down its 19.5V power output.

Hope this information is helpful.
