Venue 11 Pro 5130 32Bit to 64Bit

Hello,

Is it possible to upgrade the Dell Venue 11 Pro (5130 32Bit version) to the 64 Bit version by installing the 64Bit bios version?

And is-it possible to update the boot/restore partition to a Windows 8.1 64Bit?

At the begining the 32Bit version was installed because of lack of the 64Bit driver for the Atom. But now, the 64 bit driver are out and i want to go to the 64 Bit version.

Thanks

The 32bit and 64bit variants have different motherboards.   It is not possible to flash a 32bit device to 64bit.

Sad to hear that. I understand it's been a faulty design. Every component is 64 bit, except the motherboard made by Dell.

We sell both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.   If you need 64-bit, suggest you purchase that version as the motherboard is different.

There is no need to buy a 64-bit version, if you don't need a specific 64-bit software. New Linux kernels(3.15+) are supporting  booting from 32-bit UEFI to 64-bit Linux operating systems. I tried Ubuntu works without glitch except some drivers. They are improving it day by day. I'm sure soon we'll have an Android build with the new kernel too. Theoretically 64-bit Windows can also boot under 32-bit UEFI but that boot sequence needs to be edited. So called 32-Bit versions of Venue Pro can run 64-bit OS's. That's just a marketing trick, which I find very disappointing. It is just software. The motherboard cannot be 32-bit. How can a 32-bit motherboard operate a 64 bit processor? Maybe they are using two parallelly connected 32-bit motherboard to operate that 64-bit processor, that's why the tablet is a bit heavy.

For those who are still expecting Dell to release 64-bit UEFI update for those devices, I can say: forget it. They will never do this. This is my second tablet incident. I am an experienced Dell customer, who also bought a Dell Streak 7, which didn't get newer versions of Android after Honeycomb and cannot be easily supported by open source community because of Dell's proprietary drivers.

Why not? Does the BIOS CHIP support x64 firmware or not?

I am tester and in my work, all engineer samples could flash x86/x64 BIOS with dedirog or other tools(like fptw). For the production, we have no samples in hand.

however, let us compare with the notebook. We could install x86/x64 OS without flashing BIOS.

I think the limation(if it exist) is made by provider...

The model numbers are misleading and nowhere does the configuration site say that if you order it with a 32-bit OS that you can't install a 64-bit OS.  They should be different model numbers...5132 and 5164.  Or 5130-32 and 5130-64, or something along those lines.  Just saying it's a "Dell Venue Pro 11 5130" is incorrect if there are hardware differences between the 32- and 64-bit models.

Now Dell has updated the 64-BIT BIOS and show that it is compatible with the 32 Venue 11 Pro ,Oddly, I was still unable to install the 64-bit BIOS  Z832(D1MKO37YUHZM6[IFYG.pngK@6[KYI1WZEXWEQP2J1BIE8.pngB6862`FARTHY%J]JSHUH}OK.png

I have bought 3 Venue 5130 64 bit tablets. Two have Windows 10 64 bit installed and one had no OS installed.

After several USB boot attempts i was able to install Windows 8 x86 on the third tablet.
I couldn't install the 64 bit version. In the Windows system properties is shows that it's a 64 bit system with x86 windows installed.

The only difference between the 3 tablets is the BIOS version. Two have the 64 bit bios software (version A09) and the third has the x86 A17 version.

Is it possible to force a BIOS update to the 64 bit version?

Kind regards,
Eduard

I'm in the same boat as Florence13512, and of course receive the error messages (as all others who attempted this would too).

I'm inclined to think that the Dell employee who wrote this didn't fully understand the restrictions Dell engineered into this model.

Today a 32bit Windows installation is a serious limitation. So Dell, what's up with the 64bit BIOS. Can it actually be installed on a 64bit 5130 tablet, or not?
