About CNA port4 on Unity

Hi All,

We are planing construction unity and RP.

RP connect for CNA port4 and port5 on Unity.

I already understand that the port for Replication and the port used on RP must be sepalate.

But in this case, Unity has not I/O moduel on each SPs.

So, Unity can use CNA port 4 and 5 only.

The ports used will inevitably duplicate.

If we do not use replication technology, Can we use port4 and port5?

Since I do not compete, I think that it can be used.

Hi,

As per the White Paper: "Unity Replication Technologies" section "RecoverPoint with EMC Unity"

RecoverPoint should not be configured to utilize the EMC Unity Synchronous Replication Port on either SP.

In the VNX days, we could remove the "MirrorView /S" enabler if not used to prevent possible conflicts. In Unity we can't really do that.

Although we have no high volume of problems regarding the usage of the first FC port for RP, it is still not recommended.

We do see some issues with not following this "Best Practice" and it's really not possible to foresee how your particular environment will react to this.

Best case scenario: the Unity logs will wrap with messages like the ones in this KB: https://support.emc.com/kb/489822

This may impair troubleshooting of other issues, but should cause no problems.

Worst case scenario:

  • San View is empty from Recover Point side
  • Customer may not be able to view the Unity from Recover Point side
  • Latency and unstable flow between the RP and the Unity

Thanks
